Gate Automation

Why Do People Choose Gate Automation?

Gate automation is becoming more popular for good reason.

It means your gates are always closed and securely locked, adding security and safety to your property, together with the convenience of not having to get in and out of your car to open and shut the gates.

Whether you are considering automating an existing set of gates or starting from scratch, we will walk you through the different options available and what an automated gate or garage could add to your property.

Different Types of Gate and Garage Door Automation

At Oak Leaf Gates, we primarily install two types of automation.

Underground Gate Automation

First is our go-to system, the CAME Frog underground gate motor. This system has the motor concealed in a metal box under the gate in the drive surface. It offers swift and smooth operation for any size of domestic gate and up to 180° opening. It also does not spoil the look of the new gates from either the street or the house side.

We also use this system on our ultimate garage doors, combined with bespoke design doors and frames.  Only if there is a danger of regular flooding would we install a gate-mounted motor.

Sliding Gate Automation

Secondly, if the specific site constraints require, we will use a CAME sliding gate motor to move the gate along and a purpose-made track, as opposed to a more space-consuming swing gate.

Sliding automated gates are ideal for short driveways, a site where the drive slopes up as you enter or a built-up, urban area, such as London, where outdoor space comes at a premium.

What is Automation?

Both of the above systems are installed with the appropriate safety beams and safety edges as required, and come as standard with remote control operation, including 4 remote controls. This is what we refer to as Gate Automation. The final element of any project is the specification for Access Controls.

What is Access Control?

Where automation allows the property owner and those with a remote control to use the gates, access controls help you decide who else can gain access. There are a multitude of systems on the market, which can often overcomplicate the decision on what equipment to install. The important thing is to make it obvious to someone arriving at the gates what you are expecting them to do.

Our most popular system is an intercom at the gate on the gate pier or post, which includes a digital keypad. The visitor presses the call button, and the system calls your telephone – landline or mobile - from where you can speak to them and decide whether to let them in or not.  Regular visitors, such as family and friends, can have their own entry code. Then, to leave the property, we usually install an induction loop in the drive surface, which activates the gates when driven over, and for pedestrians, an exit keypad is installed.

Tailored Automation for Every Property

No driveway or gate is ever the same. That's why each automation system needs to be bespoke and tailored to the specific needs of the space and the people using the driveway. Our experienced team will be happy to assist you in navigating the available options while keeping the process simple. It is always our aim to ensure you receive a reliable, user-friendly system to meet all your requirements.
